Letters/68

Dear Seoul, I'm such a sap but every time we leave you, I well up a little bit. Seriously. I'm not sure what it is but I've grown attached to the city and I can't wait to call you home this spring (more on that announcement later, I promise). Dear Spring, hurry up. Dear Shoe Shopping, I don't think I've ever hated you so much as when I have to go with my husband. But I think that's only because the prices here are sometimes twice as much in the states, there's no discount shoe stores, and we are only guaranteed to find 'large sizes' (aka anything over a US size 10) in one area of Seoul and most of the time they are sold out. Dear Rant, I'm now finished. I realize this is only a small annoyance in comparison to all of the positives to living in this country. Dear Readers, I know I've been quieter than usual in social media this week. I'm spending some time away from the computer as much as I can to enjoy time with family and traveling around. I'll be back in full swing next week with stories of our trip to Japan and our family's visit to Korea! (trust me, there's some good ones just waiting for you)! Dear Jeremy, we celebrated your birthday yesterday in style and I must say, 30 looks good on you. Bring on the grey hair.

Letters/67

Dear Korean Wedding, my husband officially survived his first wedding as a couple. I can't believe that it took almost three years to even attend a wedding together. You were so fun to go to even though I couldn't wrap my head around certain aspects of the ceremony like the smoke machine and bubbles while they said their vows. Dear Apartment, I'm grateful for the amount of room that we have and for just Jeremy and I, it's more than enough. But six people staying in a 700 square for apartment this next week might be pushing it.. Dear Grapefruits, I bought eight of you this weekend for $10. It's times like these that I miss my grandpa's house where he had a whole grove full of oranges, grapefruits and tangerines. Since moving abroad it's my mission to have a lime tree, grapefruit tree and avocado tree when we move back to the states. Dear Korea, thank you so much for having Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) it's a great excuse for yet another vacation. And this time we're heading out of town with Jeremy's family to Japan! For the first time I'll be wishing the weekend goes by fast so we can go already! Dear Students, you instantly get worried when I tell you that we're going to Japan next week because of another issue with a nuclear plant there. I tell you that it's ok and we'll pack our radioactive mask and suit....I think some of you actually believed me.

Letters/66 + GUEST POST ON LOST IN TRAVELS

Dear Patbingsu, I don't know how I've survived in Korea for so long without you. I finally caved and tried this traditional Korean summer treat the other day and I must say, I'm in love. The traditional one includes shaved ice on the bottom with red bean, sweetened condensed milk, jelly bits, rice cake, ice cream and fruit on top. Ok, I admit, after typing it up, it sounds disgusting. Just trust me on this one.
Dear Jeremy, I'm so glad that you have lots of experience riding bikes. I don't know if we would have made it out of Cambodia without it. I have never in my life seen such crazy driving. We would have the green light but still drivers would come from the sides and weave and honk their way through the crowds of motorbikes and cars to make their way to the other side. Dear In-laws, I can't believe it's only one week until you get here! Don't worry, we won't make you eat anything too strange. Dear City, you keep opening the cutest lounges and bars. The one we found this weekend even made us feel like we were back in the states. Too bad even the smallest drink was still $8. Even though we're a small town, we still have some of the highest prices in the country! Dear Mountain Biking, after my first ride this weekend, I now remember why I have avoided you for so long. Good thing going with a fun group of friends always makes even the most difficult work outs enjoyable. Even if I couldn't walk for days afterwards.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I finally convinced Jeremy to go to our first Korean wedding together so we'll be heading out tomorrow! Don't worry, I'll be sharing lots of details about it in the coming weeks.

Attention! Attention!
We're heading out of town soon and I'm looking for one person to guest post for me while we're gone! I have just ONE SPOT available for purchase on my sponsor pageThe guest post will have to be turned in no later than the 12th of this month; costs just $15 and includes a 250 X 250 sized ad on my sidebar for two weeks.

So why should you get in on the action? The price of my ad spot that includes a guest post is currently $30, my vacation guest post is half that price. Plus all of my other sponsor spots are currently booked up for the next few months. This is a great way to not only get to take over my blog for a day (for a lot cheaper!) but also to get your ad up quicker! It's first come, first serve so reserve your spot today!

And now onto one of my lovely sponsors this month. Be sure to check her out and say hi!
About Rachel: Hi there, I'm Rachel, the blogger behind With Love, Rachel. I write about all of the things that make life wonderful, from adventures in traveling to fabulous shoes. I drink more wine than I probably should, I consider bargain shopping one of my talents, and I often think out my plan for how to survive the zombie apocalypse. While I love to travel, I consider California the best place on the planet, and so I spend a lot of free time exploring the lesser known treasures of the Golden State-- and sharing them on my blog, of course!

Her best traveling advice:
When booking flights, if you can, choose the flight with the long layover. Often times the flight is cheaper, and you get to spend a day in another city. You'd be surprised by how much you can see in 6 hours. I've had wonderful afternoons in Amsterdam and Frankfurt because of this, and it's also a nice break in between long flights.

Letters/65

Dear Laundry, this is one of the times I miss the comforts of the good ol' US of A. Dryers are not common in Korea, and while I'm thankful to actually have one, it's a steam dryer. Which means that it takes roughly 4-5 hours for a load of laundry to completely dry. So we opt for half drying it and then hanging it up to dry. But this is when our little cat, Zeke, thinks that it's play time...or rather nap time, and climbs up on top of the drying rack to walk around on our clothes and take a nap. Dear Decisions, can't you make yourselves? I'm already just about the most indecisive person, and that's just with decisions about what to have for lunch. Dear Jeremy, it's pretty darn cute when you start unknowingly humming 'you are my sunshine'. I don't want kids yet but you're going to make a pretty cute dad one day. Far far off into the future (don't get any ideas mother-in-law). Dear Teaching, I have been told that once you've decided you're done teaching, you.are.done teaching. We have five months left in our contract and I'm hoping it will be my last. But I don't want to say too much too soon because I know all too well that God has one heck of a sense of humor. Dear South Africa, it's official! We bought our tickets to spend a whole month exploring the country this January!

Letters/64

Dear Zeke, you're adoptive aunt and uncle were kind enough to come check in on you while we were gone. But apparently we need to work on your hosting skills because every time they would try to play with you, you would run and hide. We've got work to do mister.
Dear Cambodia, I'll admit, we didn't have the highest expectations for you before we went. But you well exceeded our expectations. I just wish you didn't get us so sick when we returned. Maybe it was our bodies way of telling us we should have just stayed there. I'll be sharing more recaps in the next few weeks!
Dear Readers, We actually ended up having access to internet last week but I purposefully steered clear of anything email, blog or social media related. Because I know myself too well and know that an innocent 'I just want to check one thing' will in fact be much more than just one. While it was a great retreat and a great excuse for a 'no technology' week, I must say that I really did miss all of you! So if you get an immense amount of comments/tweets this week, I apologize in advance.

What she can't travel without: I cannot travel with a light scarf.  I take one with me everywhere I go and it can double as so many things.

Letters/63

Dear Island, it's that time of year again when I take back all the negative things I've said about you and gawk at how beautiful you are with the hills full of blooming trees and the vivid green rice fields. I promise to keep my mouth shut until you turn bitter cold.
Dear Friend, you invited myself and three other friends into your home so your mom could cook us a traditional Korean home cooked meal...just because. Your generosity amazes me and I've never had such good Korean food before! Now time to actually learn to cook it for myself
Dear Co-teacher, when you saw me walking into school with a Red Bull in hand, you politely informed me that Koreans typically only drink Red Bull when they had been heavily drinking the night before and had a hard time staying awake...ummmm (please picture me stopped dead in my tracks glancing from the can to her). We drink it in America because we're tired. Dear Beach, you are one of the main reasons I love where we live. There are several beaches to choose from within a 30 minute radius. And we finally found one that wasn't crowded and was clean! Now that's a reason to celebrate!
Dear Camping, you're always more interesting in Korea. This past weekend we went camping on a nearby island and were yelled at on three different occasions (for three different things) by a beach worker who told us that she was the 'guardian of the trees' and we could therefore not hang any hammocks from them. Ok...at least we still had fun hanging out with friend and disconnecting from technology despite her attempts to spoil our weekend. And can I Just say how good it can feel to leave your phone at home?! I need to do that more often. Dear Cambodia, by this time we will be on a plane heading your way! I can't wait to get there an explore the temples of Angkor Wat! Dear Readers, while we're traveling around Cambodia next week, we will be internet free! Whoop whoop! It's time for a little blogging/social media vacay and I look forward to coming back rested, refreshed, and with lots of new blogging material! In the meantime, I have some awesome bloggers heading your way this week while we're out of town. Be sure to stop by their blogs and show them some love!

fireworks photography
Dear 4th of July, typically living out of the country, these types of holidays can be quite dull since no one else in the country celebrates. But my friend Amber and I, along with our pyromaniac husbands decided to set out to the beach and set off some fireworks. All was going well and we were enjoying the fact that for a moment, it felt like we were back home celebrating. We lit off a handful of the small fireworks that we were able to find here, along with played around with sparkler photos...That is until the flashing lights of a cop car drove up behind us and told us we were too loud and we had to leave.

Dear Student, this semester we talked a lot about 'tact'. Apparently I need to go over it again because we had the following conversation while at a group dinner this week (by the by, just for visual sake, this student was in his fifties).

S: Teacher, when do you plan on having babies?
Me: No time soon, we want to wait awhile, why?
S: I want to give you a tip.
Me: Ok.... (starting to think that this is going to be good).
S: When women in America have babies, they get fat. But when Korean women have babies, they don't. Do you know why?
Me: (At this point I'm trying really hard not to do a big eye roll and turn away but I indulge). Nope, no idea, why is that?
S: Korean women eat only seaweed soup for two months after the baby is born, so they stay thin. So you should do that when you have kids.

It took me a second to pick my jaw up from the floor. But there you have it folks. Want to stay thin after childbirth, strictly seaweed soup for two months and you will get you there! (I really hope you can sense my extreme sarcasm in this one.) Oh cultural differences, you sure do make life interesting.

And now onto some of my lovely sponsors this month. Be sure to check them out and say hi!

About Gillian: I'm a polite British girl who moved to the US last year. I blog about the quirky cultural differences between my two countriesfrom mixing up the words "zucchini" and "courgette" and discovering which country bakes the best cookie, to re-building my career across the pond. I like to write about social media and blogging, and every Sunday I round-up my favorite finds across the web. A lazy English Bulldog also makes a regular appearance, for those who like smoosh-faced pups!

What she can't travel without: Being in a transatlantic relationship and moving abroad means that travel to me is about doing the long-haul from A to B. I try to pack as little as possible because I'm too lazy to carry it all! My essentials are just the true essentials: Passport, ticket, wallet. If I realize I left anything else I just keep going.

About MelyssaThe Nectar Collective documents my life as a California girl living and growing abroad in Tokyo, Japan. I recently got a quirky corgi named Monja, who has a fetish for worn socks and face slobber and is basically the fluffy sidekick to my silly and happy life. I write all about positivity, travel, love, dogs, DIY projects, and how we can each spread our unique nectar to the rest of the world. I'd love to hear your voice, so come on over and say hello. Monja demands it! And of course, have a bright day!

What she can't travel without: SNACKS! Of course I bring the standard things, like my camera, notebook, and Kindle...but I feel anxious and bored if I'm staring out of my window seat without some sour gummy worms in my hands. I actually look forward to picking out the snacks right before a long trip, kind of like how fun it is to get ready to go on a date! I know, I know...I'm weird.

Letters/61

before i die i want to..
Dear Seoul, after a great weekend of thrifting, blates, eating legit (as legit as we can get in Korea) Mexican food, we're ready to go back. Sometimes I just really miss living in a big city with so much to do and see. Oh and I'm a sucker for street art such as this one pictured above. What do you want to do before you die? Dear Island, it's safe to say that our time with you is drawing to an end. We have loved living here for the past two and a half years but its' time for a change. We have something in the works, hopefully a new destination, but its still too soon to say anything quite yet!
Dear Zeke, I admit, this is on the verge of mean, but you provide the best entertainment! I love having a daredevil cat. Dear Snail Mail Collective, in the eloquent words of my partner, Melyssa, I'm so excited I'm about to pee myself! TMI? Perhaps...but I'm ok with that. I'm just so excited to see so many excited participants and can't wait to start connecting people around the world! You still have a few days to join the over 100 people that are signed up! Letters/60

Dear Amber, thanks so much for taking me to learn cupcake decorating for my birthday! Even though I'm pretty sure the owner was giggling so much because, well, let's face it. Frosting decorations just are not my forte (hint, all the pretty perfect ones in the picture above belong to Amber). Dear Seoul, you're my favorite city in Korea by far. I'm so glad we get to spend the weekend, hanging out with friends, shopping, and of course getting our fill of Mexican food. I can taste the guacamole now... Dear Crystal, I hope you're enjoying your little Philippine getaway but I'm ready for you to get back so we can have a blogger meet up this weekend! I can't wait for you to show me the ropes in Seoul for vintage shopping! We all know that you're the best at it. Dear Hubs, I'm so glad I married someone who gets worried about me if I'm too quiet. Which we all know doesn't happen very often.

Oh and stayed tuned because I have some big news coming up later today!

About Quinn: Kimchi & Sweet Tea started out as a way to share honeymoon pictures with family. It has turned into so much more. I love sharing our everyday happenings and experiences as a mixed culture family - the good, bad, and hilarious.

Her Favorite Trip: During the summer of 2009, I was newly married and on my way to South Korea with my husband… and his dad. That's right. My father-in-law joined us on our honeymoon. It turned out to be the best trip ever! Although, my husband still owes me a tradition chaperone-free honeymoon. I am a sucker for history and family stories, so it was nice to have someone tag along that knew the ins and outs of South Korea. We traveled all over the country- adventuring and meeting many of my husband's family members along the way.

About Sage: Sage is a faith-based lifestyle blog that aims to bring together women from all walks of life. Sage chronicles the ins-and-outs of everyday life as a twenty-something-year-old Christian gal including realtionships, food, health, and life as a newly engaged lady. As Sage continues to grow, I really hope to provide encouragement, fellowship, and love to all of my readers. It is my hope that my crazy little world will inspire others even in the slightest.

Her Favorite Trip: You would think that with all the international travel I have done, my favorite place to travel would be abroad, but it's not. It's actually right in my own backyard. My favorite place to visit is the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is SO much different from the South Rim. It's green, full of aspens and mountain wildlife. Cool breezes dominate, where on the South Rim there are rarely breezes at all. It is a different world, and its serenity gets me every time.

About Kim: I started blogging when my husband and I decided to relocate to Mexico City. Blogging, has allowed me to share my experiences (good and bad) with my family, friends and readers and connect with other expats. The Mexico you see on the news is not the Mexico I see in my day to day life.  I love exposing people to the  rich culture and wonderful places through the writing and photography on my blog.

Her Favorite Trip: This is a tough question! There are only two places I've ever been, where I've cried every time I boarded the plane to leave: home (for the obvious reason that leaving home and my parents is always sad) and Hawaii.
I love Hawaii.
Hawaii has such a relaxed vibe. It has all of the benefits of life in the US (functional baking system,  Reese's Peanut butter cups, postcards, etc.) but with a very distinct island vibe. The culture in Hawaii is enchanting unique and special. Plus, there are many things to do for free--which makes it even more fun!

About Heather: Oh hey there, I'm Heather from Fiery & Opinionated! A late 20-something new resident of San Francisco… product manager by day, blogger and fledging amateur photographer by night, food lover and booze aficionado. On my blog you'll hear randomness about my life, musings and yes, opinions on just about everything.

Her Favorite Trip: My favorite place to visit is, and always will be the lake. I grew up spending my summers on one of the Finger Lakes in upstate NY. It is gorgeous and there's something about time at the lake that relaxes and recharges me like nothing else can. Lucky for me, I found a guy who is also from a 'lake family' so I have two amazing lakes now!

Letters/59

Notice anything different around here? I'm so excited to finally launch Lost in Travels' new look! There are going to be a few changes around here in the coming months and I can't wait to share everything with you guys! I owe the new format all to a good friend of mine, Rachel, from back home. She's pretty much a design genius. I'm thrilled with what she's provided me and especially excited about the new header which she made a custom font for. I have no idea how to even begin to do that. See why I called in a professional? Also, check out the new 'Travel Tips' page at the top. I hope my trial and error travel experiences can help you on an upcoming trip!
isn't she just gorgeous?
Dear Students, I walked into class last week and was bombarded by sweet messages on the board and everyone holding a cake and singing happy birthday. A+ for everyone. Dear Friends, I always thought that birthdays in Korea wouldn't be that great because I didn't have friends and family from back home here to celebrate with me. Thanks for proving me wrong once again.

Dear Amber, you were my party planner extraordinaire! Thank you so much for all the sweet decorations and the amazing homemade cake! If you haven't visited her blog yet, go check it out to find some awesome DIY crafts!

Dear Korea, you're a little early this year on the rainy season. I hope my students are ok with their teacher looking like a drown rat for the next six weeks because I don't see the point of doing my hair when it will be ruined as soon as the humidity hits it. Hey rainy season, want to leave a little early this year?  Dear Hubs, since we didn't get to spend any alone time on my actual birthday, you made it up to me the next day by waking me up with this. You sure to know how to make a girl happy. Food, the answer is always food.

Happy happy weekend friends! I finally got more of our Philippines documented and ready to go for next week!

About Laura: We are a creative couple who are parents to a very active little man. John is a traditional barber from Wales and Laura is a trained photographer from South Africa and have made there home in the UK (for now!). We love to travel, eat good food, fashion, parenting, spending as much time outdoors as possible while listening to good music and capturing our lives through photo's.

Her favorite trip: I think one of the best places was simply because it was such a surprising city was Zagreb - the capital of Croatia. Everyone goes to the coast but I had arrived in Zagreb on an overnight train from Zurich, sharing my coupe with two Bosnia's and traveling through Switzerland and Slovenia into Croatia. Arriving into the city it was a bit daunting with graffiti everywhere but I met up with some couch surfing people and discovered the real, young and vibrant city. Also love Cape Town and Nice in the South of France.

About Robyn: Hi everyone! I started to record my ramblings and misadventures of life in Africa (and now the Middle East) for my family and friends abroad. It opened the world of blogging to me and I now love finding new blogs. I am currently living in Kuwait and looking forward to escaping the summer heat very soon! Come over and say hello!

Her favorite trip: My favourite place to visit and travel - Uganda. An easy question for me. It really is the pearl of Africa. If it is not on your bucket list, it should be.

About Emmy: My blog is a constant reminder to me, and I hope to others, that Love is what should drive our day. It's what should motivate us to get up in the morning. And I throw in a lot of coffee, puppies, musicals, books, and other nerdy things along the way.

Her favorite trip: My favorite place that I have traveled to thus far was New York City. It had been a long time dream of mine to travel to the Big Apple (I'm a HUGE Broadway nerd) and when I heard that the movie Newsies was going to Broadway, I knew I had to go see it on stage. On a whim I sent a message out to some of my friends and one agreed to go on a crazy Memorial Day adventure with me! Everything about the city drew me in. After only a couple of hours I felt at home in the heart of Manhattan. A year later I can still hear the call of NYC in the back of my mind and I can't wait until I have the chance to go back. (And yes, Newsies was amazing.)

Letters/58

Dear Philippines, I still can't believe that just one week ago we were repelling down waterfalls, swimming with whale sharks and sipping mango smoothies by the beach. It was the best mini vacation I could ask for. I'll start sharing all the details next week! Just after I stop looking through all our photos on repeat.

Dear Hubs, I still can't believe you pulled that off without me knowing! Six months is a long time to keep a secret that big!

Dear Father, thank you for sending me off to Korea with an adequate supply of meds. Taking a z-pak at home is infinitely better than going to the doctor and playing a round of charades. Dear Zeke, ever since Kimchi left, you've been moping around the apartment and instantly whining for us to pick you up the moment we step through the door. Sorry we gave your friend away. Dear Friend, you once told me that after turning 25, it all goes downhill. I know you were joking but I now really hope it's not true since i'm turning the big 25 tomorrow! Dear Hubs, I'm so glad I married an older man because no matter what age I turn, I know you already turned it years ago. Ok, ok, and you looked dang good doing it too.

Letters/57

Dear Kimchi, Hubs came home with you after you followed him on his bike ride. Worried that you wouldn't make it much longer since you're only a few weeks old and you were living on the side of the road, he brought you home.

I'm so thrilled that after just two days we found you a permanent home with a great friend of ours. Even though I admit that I'll be sad to see you go after afternoons spent with you napping on my lap.

and watching Zeke actually start to like you...or at least put up with you.
He's a mischievous little one I tell ya.

Dear Hubs, you are oh so sweet with all the work you put into the blog for me. Do I think I'm the best? Heck no. But it's nice to think someone does.
Dear Weather, can you just pick hot or cold please? This switch has given me the nastiest of colds and it's difficult to teach when I can't even breathe out of my nose. Dear Self, please refrain from asking students, especially middle school students, how to say something in Korean. Turns out that for the last year while I thought that I was saying 'I don't speak Korean', I was really saying 'Stop speaking Korean.' Oops.

Happy weekend all! Hubs surprised me Thursday morning with an early birthday surprise of tickets to the Philippines for the weekend! So by the time this post goes up we'll be sippin' mango smoothies by the beach. I'll be back next week with full details!

Dear Hubs, I'm glad you started mountain biking so much because let's face it, who doesn't love a man in padded biking pants?
But I admit I get just a tad bit nervous when you come back and show me crash footage like this. This picture is actually of our friend Jared and thankfully he walked away with just a bruised rib.

Dear Hair, it's time to cut you again and even though I found a great place to go that does exactly what I want, it's still nerve-wracking to go to a place that you have to explain what you want through charades. Dear Zeke, I really have nothing to say to you, I just wanted an excuse to post this photo of you when you get sleepy and cuddly when I'm working.

Dear Travels, in true a.d.d. style, we've already started planning out not only our summer vacation this year but also our Korean Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. Nothing like looking at lots of travel destinations to get your wanderlust going.

P.S. I'm guest posting over on the sweet Laurie's blog today and talking about my awkward life in Asia. Go check it out!
